Remote Hosting Service
Hosting OncoEMR at the Altos Solutions
NOC (Network Operations Center) is the most common choice for
OncoEMR clients. In this mode, you access the application via 128-bit
encrypted channel from your browser. You have 24x7 access with no server
or software to maintain. Your application and data are hosted at our
Class I hosting facility, featuring a T-3 high speed connection to the
Internet Backbone, high security data storage, daily data backups, automatic
load leveling to the web server farm, hardware firewall, 24 X 7 maintenance,
backup power, and automatic failover to a secondary remote site. The
key
benefit of this option is far less expense than hosting the application
in your office.
The NOC
Altos Solutions NOC is a Class 1 hosting facility
that provides 24 X 7 monitoring, nightly backups of all data,
automatic performance tuning and load leveling.
The Hardware Story
The installation features dual Cisco hardware firewalls with
multiple T3 connections to the internet backbone. Behind the
firewall are hardware load-leveling systems that automatically
distribute the processing load across the server farm. The
server farm currently consists of six production computers and
three backup/staging systems. The production configuration has
two internal tiers as follows – the web server and application
tier consists of three Intel Xeon-based, 3ghz, four processor
web servers with 3.5 gigabytes of main memory, connected via
fiber channel interface to the database tier. The second tier
consists of three database servers with the same configuration
as the web servers. Disk storage is on RAID-5 hot-swappable
drives. The NOC features battery backup sufficient to run the
machines at 100% load for 6 hours, however switch-over to the
diesel generator system typically occurs in under 15 minutes and
is completely automatic.
Availability
The facility is up, running, attended and supported at all times.
Backups are performed daily, and the data redundancy of RAID-5 means the risk of disk crashes
is a thing of the past. Should there ever be a disk problem, the magic of RAID-5 redundant
servers means that problems are corrected without loss of data nor any downtime.
The Altos NOC consistently delivers less than 30 millisecond response times
with loads of up to 1000 simultaneous users. New servers are added as needed to maintain this
quick level of response.
