Oncology Metrics, a division of Altos Solutions, Inc., provides information products and services for the oncology community to promote and measure quantitative improvement in clinical and business processes at the provider, practice and enterprise level.  Through networks of community-based oncology practices and national surveys, Oncology Metrics delivers a broad spectrum of data, information and analysis to help oncology stakeholders improve cancer research and patient care.

The cornerstone of Oncology Metrics’ approach is to support quality improvement and the adoption of best practices by providing physicians and practices with meaningful, actionable and reliable data-driven information.

The Oncology Metrics team has decades of experience in oncology practice management, data collection, analysis, and leadership of national oncology organizations. Oncology Circle is a data sharing collaborative of best-in-class oncology practices from across the country, dedicated to clinical and operational excellence through the scientific collection and use of data. Oncology Circle members’ data is collected, analyzed and made accessible via standard and customized reports for an objective understanding of practice behavior and a tool for practice improvement.

The National Practice Benchmark survey collects, aggregates and reports financial, operational, and staffing data from community oncology practices in all practice settings across the country.  Qualified participants receive a complete set of benchmarks to use for quality improvement in their own practice. Findings are published in nationally recognized journals.

Team

Thomas R. Barr, MBA, General Manager—Tom is a past president of the AOHA. He was an advisor to the MGMA 2000, 2001, and 2003 Cost Survey for Hematology/Oncology Practices and is the author of the Summary of Key Observations published by MGMA in the 2003 report. Prior to founding Oncology Metrics, Tom was the CEO and Executive Director of The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders in Fort Worth, Texas. He is a past member of the Clinical Practice Committee of the ASCO, serves on the Strategic Planning Committee of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, and is widely published in the area of oncology measurement and management.

Jim Senese MS, RPh, Director of Network Development—Jim has 25+ years experience in the medical field with a broad background in practice management, operations, and medical sales. Prior to joining Oncology Metrics, he was the Eastern Regional Vice President for U.S. Oncology. Before U.S. Oncology, Jim was with Caremark, the alternate site health care division of Baxter Travenol. In addition, Jim has held senior positions with the Oley Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to consumers on long-term parenteral and enteral nutrition. He maintains a Pharmacist License in New York State. He is a member of ASCO and ACCC.

Elaine Towle, CMPE, Director of Consulting Services—Elaine has over 25+ years of experience in oncology practice management. Prior to joining Oncology Metrics, she was Practice Administrator for a 15-provider medical oncology group practice in New Hampshire and has extensive experience in the daily operations of oncology practice including billing and reimbursement issues, pharmaceutical contracts and inventory control, effective use of mid-level providers and human resource management.  Elaine is on the Board of Directors of the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society. She is also a member of MGMA, ASCO, and ACCC. She is a past president of the Administrators in Oncology-Hematology Assembly of MGMA and served as a founding member of the ASCO/AOHA liaison committee. She serves as Consultant Editor for ASCO’s Journal of Oncology Practice.
